Coaching Guidelines Policy

Coach and Team Selection

- Coaching assistants must be approved by CMHA.

- Team selection evaluators must be approved by CMHA.

- Team selection evaluators must be a minimum of two plus the Head coach (more is preferable.)

- Evaluator sheets must be turned into CMHA after team selection is complete.

- Any players outside of CMHA must have written approval prior to trying out.

- Every player must be registered with CMHA prior to trying out.

- Coaches are to hold a parents meeting for those trying out to discuss the season, expectations, commitment, budget etc before the selection process is complete.

 

Tryouts 

- Coaches who have children trying out for the team must use a minimum of three evaluations and a coach's evaluation of their own child is not permitted

- Coaches must use HNS player selection or CMHA approved forms for all evaluations.

- Teams numbers are to be set by CMHA and coaches must be prepared to take a maximum of 19 players should there be a numbers issue.

 

Ice Allocation and Scheduling

- Ice allocation is provided by CMHA. Should you are unable to use ice allocated to your team, switching of ice slots may be done with mutual consent of both coaches and with permission of the CMHA ice coordinator.

- Booking of officials is the responsibility of the Head Coach and he/she must contact the Referee assignor.

- Ice schedules are to be coordinated with the CMHA ice coordinator.

- All schedules are to be submitted for ice allocation at the earliest time to ensure ice requirements are met.

- Any requirements for additional ice or officials is to be booked in the coaches name and paid for from the team budget.


Finances

- Financial statement updates are required by Dec 31 and at year end. Should the financial statement not be submitted on time the teams will have their game permits revoked.

- Game/ice logs and suspension logs are required to be completed by the head coach and submitted on the last Sunday of every month. Failure to do so can result in teams having their game permits revoked.

- Finances are to be kept by the team and are subject to guidelines as set out by CMHA.

 

Fundraising 

- All fundraising must have prior approval of the CMHA.

- All teams under CMHA must participate in all CMHA fundraisers.

- Any team sponsorship must have prior approval of CMHA.

- Any team wishing to host a tournament must have prior approval of CMHA.

-Fundraising is not permitted to purchase clothing or to offset player/coach accommodations.

 

Team and Player Conduct 

- Any player suspensions other than HNS suspensions must be reported to CMHA.

- Resolution of complaints should follow CMHA and HNS intervention guidelines.

- Coaches are to enforce any and all CMHA suspensions including non-payment of registration fees.

- Coaching staff are responsible for dressing rooms in terms of safety and condition financially.

 

Certification-Safety 

- A Team First aid kit must be present at all games and practices.

- Every disabling injury must be documented and submitted to CMHA.

- All coaching staff including assistants and guest coaches are required to wear a CSA approved helmet with the chin strap fastened. Minor hockey registered players must have full gear when being used in a coach capacity as per HNS rules.

- All coaches are required to have an up to date CRC and CAR completed within 30 days of going on the ice with their teams. The latest CMHA deadline to complete this is Dec 1.

-Coaching certification must be in compliance with HNS regulations for coaching level applied for.

 

Communication and Promotion

- Coaches are asked to use the CMHA website to provide weekly and or bi-weekly updates on team progress.

- Coaches are required to keep practice and game schedules up to date on the CMHA website.
