Team Staff Applications
Willing to Volunteer?
Minor hockey runs on volunteers like you every season. Each year we need qualified family members of players to step into coaching, team manager, safety, and dressing room monitor roles. Teams and minor hockey can not function without folks willing to lend a hand and help out. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to complete the required paperwork and courses, learn and show up and be present to the players.
If you have never volunteered in the minor hockey system you must register for a Hockey Canada Registry account and then register for the required courses. Here are the steps to get you started:
Step 1: Reach out to our Risk Manager, Angela Taylor at riskmanagement@chesterravens.com to provide her with your full name (first and last), date of birth, your player's name(s), and the teams (U7, U9, U11 B etc...) which you would like to help with. Our Risk Manager will provide a list of courses and other requirements like a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VSC) that you must complete to be eligible to volunteer in minor hockey. She will also provide you information about how to seek reimbursement for your out of pocket course costs from Chester Minor Hockey.
Step 2: Register for a Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) account and an HCR # at the following link. Select either the New Volunteers Needing and HCR# or the New Bench Staff Neeing an HCR# (if you would like to coach). https://page.spordle.com/chester/register
After selecting the most appropriate option above, you will be redirected to Spordle's Website. Look for the Chester Ravens logo. Find the small hyperlink toward the bottom of the website that says "Dont have an accout? Sign Up". Click this and follow the on-screen instructions. You will enter the email you want to sign in with, set up a new password, provide your phone number and your home address. Make note of the email address you use and the password you set. You will need this in a few mins to sign up for your Hockey Nova Scotia/Hockey Canada courses.
Step 3: Log into HCR with your new username and password. Then finalize your account information through the Participant Selection process. There are a number of steps and pop up's during this part of the process; just keep clicking next/continue/confirm blue buttons in the bottom righthand corner and provide the information the system is asking for. Here is a what you can expect step-by-step:
- Enter your first name, last name and date of birth. HCR will perform a search in the background to ensure there are no existing profiles that match your name in the system. If you previously played hockey or volunteered many years ago, the system may return a match (as well as matches that have the same or similar name and DOBs to you).
- Look over any match options presented to you carefully to determine if any of those old profiles might have been yours. If you see an old profile that belongs to you, please select it.
- If there are no matches you will likely see "We Could Not Find Your Participant". If so, proceed by selecting "Create a New Participant".
- Answer all of the mandatory questions in the next form, then click create at the bottom of the form.
- A manage participant screen will appear. Click on each area presented and provide the information for yourself. Once all of the sections are showing a green checkmark beside them, click the blue "Register" button.
- Next a Registration Selection popup will appear. Select "Skip the Registration Selection" then click the blue "Next" button.
- A Registration > Items Selection screen will pop up. Use the plus sign to add one item. Then click the blue "Next" button.
- A Registration pop up will show completed items. Click the blue "Complete" button.
- A Participant Summary will pop up. Click the blue "Checkout" button.
- An Order Summary will appear. Click the blue "Next" button.
- Next a pop up called "Payment Terms and Conditions" will appear showing No Fee Required. Check the "I have read and accept the terms and conditions" checkbox and then click the blue "Next" button.
- A Selection Payment Method box will appear showing FREE REGISTRATION. Click the blue "Complete" button.
- You will see a Registraiton Confirmation pop up that has the Ravens logo and say's "Thank you for registering". Whew you made it! This will complete your HCR registration process and let you know that an HCR number has been created alongside your profile.
Step 4. Go to Hockey Nova Scotia's website. Navigate to the Coach menu, then Volunteer Requirements. Or click this link: Volunteer Requirements. Select the age level you want to volunteer for and the level of competitive play for the team(s) you are planning to assist. Scroll down to find the role(s) you are volunteering for. Make note of the requirements for the position(s) you are planning to hold. If you are unsure of what you need, what you might already have completed, please double check with Angela Taylor at riskmanagement@chesterravens.com
Step 5. Click the link for the course(s) you are registering for and log into HCR using the email and password you set up in Step 2 above. Proceed through the screens. You will need a credit card to pay for your course. After you are registered, the links for your online courses will appear on your HCR account. Look for "My Courses" in the navigation pane to the left side of your HCR account.
Once you complete the course email Angela Taylor at riskmanagement@chesterravens.com to let her know you have finished the course(s) and send her a copy of your course reciept for reimbursement. An e-transfer will be sent to the email address on file with HCR account unless you specify otherwise. Your course results will appear on your HCR account automatically and in the HCR system. Chester Minor Hockey will be able to see your credentials and Hockey NS will able to approve your participation on a roster.
Coaching Applications
Each year, CMHA looks for coaches, managers, and safety reps for all divisions. CMHA is run by volunteers. Teams cannot run unless these roles are filled. Applications are open until September 1, 2026.
If you want to coach as a head coach, assistant coach, or training coach, please download and complete the 2026-2027 CMHA Coaching Application Form . Please email your completed form to both Amber Fiander at recdirector@chesterravens.com and JR Perry at compdirector@chesterravens.com.
Team Managers and Safety Reps
You do not need to fill out an application to be a team manager or safety rep. If you are interested, please email secretary@chesterravens.com. In your email, tell us which role you are interested in and what age level you would like to volunteer for.
Volunteer Requirements
To volunteer with CMHA, you need a Spordle account and a Hockey Canada Registry number. If this is your first course or training program, you will create your account when you sign up.
Each volunteer role has different training rules. For the most up-to-date list, please visit Hockey Nova Scotia’s website here: https://hockeynovascotia.ca/coach/coaching-requirements/ Choose the level of play you want to volunteer for to see what you need.
You must pay for your courses first. This may include coaching certification, first aid (if not participating in a CMHA organized group training), and other Hockey Nova Scotia or Hockey Canada volunteer requirements. CMHA will pay you back after you finish the required training.
Before you register for any courses, it is best to check with Risk Management to make sure you are taking the ones. You can email Angela Taylor at riskmanagement@chesterravens.com with questions.
